Finnish Casino and Card Room Gaming

The casino industry in Finland includes one full-scale casino (Casino Helsinki), gaming machine arcades, and card rooms in restaurants and bars. The former Slot Machine Association, Raha-automaattiyhdistys (RAY), established in 1938 as the exclusive manager of casino games and slot machines, was merged into Veikkaus Oy in 2017, so all these activities are now run under the Veikkaus brand. Veikkaus operates tens of thousands of slot machines nationwide (including in supermarkets and bars), though machine numbers and locations have been gradually reduced under recent harm-reduction measures.

In June 2008, the government of Finland passed a bill raising the age limit for using gambling machines from 15 to 18.
